Walking with Peety
• Walking with Peety: The Dog Who Saved My Life by Eric O'Grey and Mark Dagostino on Amazon
Initially I chose Walking with Peety because I wanted to read another dog/ pet book and could not resist Peety's adorable face on the cover, so I enjoyed reading about the unmistakable signs and interesting circumstances that brought Peety and Eric together. I found it fascinating to learn how Peety helped Eric return to health and life from morbid obesity, countless other ailments, and a literally grave-bound existence. Other reviewers have it right that a big chunk of the book comes across as good news regarding a plant-based diet for humans and for critters who aren't obligate carnivores as felines are; I've been eating low on the food chain almost forever, and possibly will make the leap to plant-based soon, so I found details regarding process and benefits more than conventionally engaging.
On some level I agree Eric O'Grey and co-author Mark Dagostino make almost all Eric's progress sound close to instantaneous, but I also know once a person achieves any goal, memories regarding whatever struggles and roadblocks they encountered along the way usually fade away to near oblivion. It's commonplace that giving up an unhealthy food, a toxic substance or environment (including psychologically difficult ones) often leads to feeling much better within a few days. In short, I appreciated all the food hype, but in the end the story of everlasting love between Eric and Peety that transformed both their lives drew me in.
Inspirational? Yes, and also hopeful, because like a stone thrown into a pond that ripples outward, Peety and Eric together changed for the better many other individuals and organizations they came in contact with. Highly recommend!
